A Companion that is Solitude

My new work for brass quintet was composed during the lockdown. What started as a small study on Chopin’s e minor prelude turned into a new piece. The work’s title is inspired by a Thoreau quote,

‘I find it wholesome to be alone the greater part of the time. To be in the company, even with the best, is soon wearisome and dissipating. I love to be alone. I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude’.

Two versions, with bass trombone or tuba. Score and parts available – just let me know.
